Hey you, over there! Yes-you. The person sitting either at your desk, or on your favorite couch surfing and reading out of total and complete boredom. Hi there. It's good to meet you.
I'm Dana. What I write about here will be no more, and no less worthy of your attention than any of the other blogs out there. Us bloggers have something in common. We're all attention whores of sorts. We talk just to hear ourselves talk, and we LOVE to hear when someone is actually listening. So go ahead and give a comment if you desire.
The title of this blog, Unexpected Blessings comes from the unexpected blessings within my own life. Here, let me introduce you to them.
First up is my husband, often referred to as either Honey or Daddy depending on the context. And no, I don't mean in the "who's your daddy" context either. Sometimes, when he's being really doofy, I'll use one of any other dozens of terms, but you'll generally know who he is when I do that.
I met Honey in a game, online. He is one of my unexpected blessings because I didn't know I needed him when he showed up. I wasn't expecting him, or anyone like him. I wasn't expecting to find, want or need love at all in a romantic sort of way. Yet, the universe saw fit to bring us together, and what an unexpected blessing it really was!
My next unexpected blessing is my oldest son (15), often referred to as Bear, Big Bear, or Teenaged Bucket of Hormones. I had him right before I turned 21. I was enjoying a quiet evening with my gentleman friend at the time. He made a nice spaghetti dinner, and I puked it up all over the place. Later that night, after 18 pregnancy tests, the first 17 of which were negative, it was official. I was pregnant! Oh what a ride it's been since then! (Let's not touch on the odd mental instability that motivates a person to take 18 pregnancy tests in one night just to be sure that negative really is a negative---especially since it turned positive on the 18th one!)
Up next is Princess Pie. Princess Pie is 11 years old. Already married and divorced one time, I found myself pregnant. And with her, I knew the very instant that it happened. I felt it. One missed period later, and it was confirmed. I was not only not wanting to get pregnant, I wasn't ready for it. I had no stable home, no stable income, but for some reason, the universe decided we needed each other. I almost gave her up for adoption, but then I started to feel those little flutter kicks, and hear that beautiful heart beat at the doctor and just knew, she was meant for me and no one else.
Our next unexpected blessing is Baby Bear. He's three years old. Now, baby bear was always meant for us from the very moment he was born. The universe just took a little while to bring him to us is all. He came to us, semi-permanently last May. We are doing all that we can to make it a permanent thing. He is bouncy and hyper, just as all three year olds are; and he is one big bucket of love.
And my next unexpected blessing is my best friend, Raven. Now I've never met Raven face to face, but our hearts seem to speak to each other. I'll probably mention her from time to time. She helps to keep me sane somewhat... or maybe that's insane?
I'm not going to start in with the multitudes of strays that we have here. There is a reason that my ex husband used to say that I would take in stray anythings. I was a stray once myself, so can't help it. We've had everything from baby birds, to cats and dogs, and even stray cows knock upon our door. Yes, the small herd of cows (five of them to be exact) actually came to the door, and kicked it gently to make a knocking sound.
So there you have it. My unexpected blessings. We are hoping for at least one more child. I have a feeling though that this child is already born, and the universe is taking a while to deliver it once again, much like Baby Bear.
And then there's me. I'm a stay at home, work at home mother. You'll learn much more about me in due time, I'm sure. Just know this much: I never claimed to be sane!
Dana
