I don't drink often; maybe once every couple of years. I just don't like the sense of a loss of control. I'm a control freak and HAVE to be in control all of the time. But here lately, with Little Man gone, winter coming on and the past week, I had decided tonight was my drinking night.
My husband decided to take us to Logan's and immediately I thought "pina colada time!" (If you've never had a Pina Colada, shame on you!) When we got there, I couldn't pick anything. Nothing looked particularly appetizing. Husband says "you get the steak, I'll get the salmon, and we'll share."
Now, I don't like fish much. Usually, it just tastes nasty. When Honey gets salmon, he usually gets me to eat a couple of bites of it, then I chow down on the yummy stuff. I agreed to his meal plan, and I'm glad I did.
I always order my drink to come with my meal. I don't drink on an empty stomach, ever. This time, my drink didn't come until the meal was almost done. By that time, I was feeling nicely relaxed, and my mood had lifted considerably. So much so, that I didn't even rake anyone over the coals when the drink finally arrived (as we were finishing dinner) and there was MOLD on the fruit in the drink. (I'm good at that coal raking thing!)
For the first time in a long time, every muscle in my body was completely relaxed and I didn't feel as stressed as normal. My husband and I joked that either the salmon was magical, (I barely even touched the steak tonight) or someone put happy pills in it. When I got home, I decided to consult my good friend Google to find out more information.
Salmon contains an important Omega fatty acid in it. Or essential ones... something like that. anyway, these fatty acids help with not just schizophrenia, strokes and heart disease prevention but also:
Depression
Mood swings
Menstrual pain
Fatigue
Memory
These are all issues I have problems with. (Well, not schizophrenia, strokes or heart disease!) My depression is especially bad in the winter months. Did you know it's also great for kids with ADHD?
So yeah, I'm writing about fish of all things. I will be finding supplements, if I'm able to since I can't stand the taste of the stuff usually. If my mood, however, can be lifted this much with just a bit of the stuff though, I'd like to see what other of my issues it can fix too.
Fish. Ew. Who knew?
