When my kids were younger, they got along pretty well. Sister followed Brother everywhere. Brother would not allow anyone to say anything harsh or be mean to his sister at all. (Except for himself, of course.) Ever try disciplining a three year old with her six year old brother standing behind you yelling "She's just a baby! Leave her alone!" All Sister had to do was think about crying, and Brother was putty in her hands.
Well, except the time he superglued her mouth shut...
And the time he taught her how to fly....
Ahh.. sibling rivalry at it's best!
When Brother returned from his 2 year long visit with his dad in Michigan, these two fought like crazy. One would say night and the other would say day just to have an arguement. One would say black, and the other would say white. Secretly, I always wondered if they did it just to annoy me.
This trend lasted for a couple of years. Now we're in a new trend. These two are as thick as thieves. Sure, they have their occasional argument here and there. For the most part though, they have a lot of the "play" fights. They aren't really arguing, they're just playing around with each other.
They don't interact as though one is years older than the other. They interact as though they are equals now.
I'm not gonna lie here; sometimes they manage to get on my nerves, especially when we're in a small car and they're in the back goofing around loudly. I look at these two sometimes though, and I know one very important thing.
No matter what happens in life, no matter what troubles life brings to them, they will be okay. They will always have each other. They have a very strong sense of family and of loyalty to their family. I truly hope that this is something that continues on for generations to come.
