Kinda Stuck

I'm writing this book, and already I'm coming up on some challenges. For example, like me, the main character would rather take public transportation instead of driving a car; especially in heavy traffic areas. Another character was going to explain how his modern car had been manipulated by remote, but then I realized that since this conspiracy thriller is about the main character, the incident should happen directly to her.

Problem is, I stated earlier that she doesn't have a car and doesn't like to drive. so now I either need to go back and edit that, or revert back to the secondary character's experience instead.

The incident really needs to occur with her. We're 20 pages in and still haven't gotten that 'hook' yet. We've had a few minor things but nothing that grabs the attention of those reading to stay with it. So there it is. I'm stuck on how to work the car scene.

I am having a good time with this, though. Since it's a conspiracy theory type thing, there isn't a ton of research necessary beyond what I already know or can easily Google. That part is nice. I'm sure that it will change as we go further into it, though. I also like working the Austin area into it, too.

Over all, this is fun! I especially like it when I hit that 'zone' and am merely typing out the scenes playing out in front of me. For me, I struggle to get started but afterwards, it's like I'm watching a movie, or am in the situation itself as one of the characters. Then, it's just typing and transcribing. Do any of my other writer type friends experience this?

I am having difficulty with transitional phrases. For example, when one person speaks, there are quotation marks, it's their own paragraph, etc. But, you have to identify the person speaking. "Bill said, 'yadda yadda do.'" "Susan replied, "yeah you, too!'" I need to look up ways to do this a bit more smoothly.

And as I write this one, I keep thinking of other plots that I want to read also. Since I want to read them, then I'll likely need to write them too. Make sense?

What types of obstacles are you finding with your one of your new hobbies?

  1. The chains are chafing Goof. It's proven quite the obstacle to my happiness because if I truss him up before putting the lotion on, he just whimpers all night. If I put the lotion on first, he gets squirmy and hard to hold on to.

I've found that slipping a mild sedative into his drink helps a lot.

  2. Okay, I wanted to answer this post in another way... well, I wanted to write about something else besides my new found hobby. I wanted to talk about book writing. The thing is, I had already written a blog about it and was waiting for it to be put up.

Follow the link on my facebook page, and remember to ask yourself why.
