The Great Salmon Experiment

A few weeks back, I posted about an experimeint of sorts that we're doing at home. Using Salmon to help combat mood issues, as well as memory, fatigue, and even cramps. Some have asked that I give updates, so here we go. :)

Details: Eat Salmon, (not the canned kind,) three to four days per week. On non salmon days, take an Omega 3 fish oil extract.

Mood: A lot better than usual this time of year, though could also be credited partially to it not being terribly cold as well. However, it is a lot better than it was a few weeks ago. Even PMS agitation seems to be better under control.

Fatigue: Still tired as crud. May be an iron issue.

Migraines: Suffered migraines two days from the last three weeks. PMS symptoms however. The usual daily migraine has not occurred in three weeks.

Motivation and Focus: Able to complete work easier, as well as projects. Though to be honest, I still need some work in this area.

Cramps: WOW! HUGE difference! Still have cramps, but I'm not taking as much Midol to manage them and bring them to a somewhat acceptable level. My usual half a bottle of Midol was greatly reduced to 6 Midol pills yesterday.

Okay, effects on my kids...They just do the salmon, no fish oil things there for them.

Princess Pie is less prone to those pre-teen hormonal crying fits. Her grades have gone up a small bit, and she's not as hyper.

Big Bear is just about the same, though seems a bit more patient with his sister when we stick with it. I think that's more because she's controlling her own behavior adequately and not getting on his nerves as much.

So there you have it. The great salmon experiment. Granted, it was only three weeks long, but the differences in three weeks are major enough for us to keep with it. This is no way an endorsement of the nutritional supplements, but rather the food itself.  Having the nutrient in it's natural form is always the best way to go.

If one is on any medications for depression, fatigue, cramps, etc, I do not reccomend coming off of these medications and replacing them with fish. I do however, reccomend adding fish into yuor diet and monitoring your personal progress. If you are under a doctor's care, tell him/her about any major changes to your diet or exercise plan before implementing those changes!
