One of those afternoon celebrity trash tv "news shows" has a segment called "You're Amazing!" They pick out some quality that they think is great, and tell someone they are amzing for it. So with that being said, I too would like to jump on the "You're Amazing!" bandwagon.
How about today, we focus on "Amazing" gifts!
Recently, I came across a seat made by Evenflo, I believe (but could be wrong on the brand). This special baby seat holds your baby, cuddles it, rocks it, just as though it was in it's mother's arms. Wow! Then, as I was watching morning cartoons with my daughter this morning, they advertised a toy. It plays hide and seek with your child. It's an electronic rabbit. Child holds the carrot and hides, and the rabbit "seeks" out the carrot, thus finding the child. Truly amazing!
What's even more mazing is that people will actually buy these things! We are so technologically advanced, that now we are creating items to virtually replace a parent's care. Don't want to hold your baby when it's fussy? That's okay; allow this seat to hold it for you! Too busy to take time from your day to play with your child? Guess what we have. A toy that will play with your child FOR you!
Do you remember the days when babies were held by mothers, fathers, and siblings? What about the days when hide and seek was an interactive game between human parents and children, or between human children and other children?
This truly is amazing and awe inspiring. They are great things. Nobody ever said that "great" was positive either though. Now maybe it's just me here, but I'd much rather my child bond with myself or another human being instead of what amounts to a pile of wires and circuitry. Maybe it's me, but I want my infant to be in my arms, staring into my eyes, cuddle against the warmth of my skin, instead of in a specialized seat that simulates these things.
There is no simulation for a parent's love.
So to all of the manufacturer's out there that produce objects like these, I have to say to you...
You truly are AMAZING!
