"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth"

I'm not enough of a Bible person to be able to tell you the exact verse, psalm, or even what connotation the phrase "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth" was being used in. I remember the phrase from my childhood days.

We were living in the city in Houston. Mostly, we lived in run down apartment complexes, my bio mom being the manager of them. I can remember days when she found bodies in apartments, and dead children in dumpsters. I can remember days when I'd find bullet casings just outside my bedroom window. Yet, I wasn't scared. My mother was. We were kept indoors 24/7, mainly allowed out to only go to school.

As a child, I was full of thirst for companionship. When I realized there were people that went into that huge white building several times during the week, some of them children, I wanted to go to. I put on my best school outfit, fresh from JC Penney, and trotted my happy keister right on over.

The room was HUGE. It really was bigger than a football stadium. I chose to sit in one of the balconies, and just watch everything that was going on. The man at the front, at the podium, was saying something but he was so passionate, so full of life, that he didn't take the time to make sure he spoke clearly. The only thing he said, that my little ears could understand anyway, was "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."

I remember asking my mother what meek meant, and she said "quiet, almost shy. A meek person doesn't raise a fuss, they are perpetually calm and without ego."

I was too young at the time for Chernobyl to mean anything to me. Something blew up in another part of the world that was so far away, it may as well have been pretend. Several times though, over the years, I have been reminded of this one little phrase. "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth!"

We were reminded of this when Katrina hit Louisiana. The egotistical politicians didn't see to their duties to ensure that the damns and levies were safe. Katrina hit, a normal hurricane that under normal circumstances would have caused minimal distruction. It destroyed Louisiana for years to come because those politicians did not ensure the safety of their people. Those in charge of the damns cut corners to save money (to line their own pockets with) and it cost  thousands of lives.

Last year, at about this time, Haiti was also hit with an earthquake. Haiti is a very small country that is very over populated, and extremely poor. They needed help already before the quakes, but there was little assistance available to them. In the long run, it was the earthquakes that brought the attention of the world to Haiti and they received much aid. Now, as another over populated country is in the focus, I wonder how Haiti is doing. I wonder if they are still receiving aid to further the economical growth of their country.

And now, we have a terrible disaster out in Japan. Japan's economic system while healthy, was rebounding from a terrible recession. Their people weren't poor, but the economy was... how should I put it? It was like ours is right now. "Faking it til it starts making it!" It is a very small country when compared to our own. The entire country is about the size of Montana, from what I've read.

They have an earthquake every five minutes! And yet, some of the greatest technoligical advancements came from Japan and China. Every five minutes, the earth shakes.

On Friday, it had the worst earthquake it had ever had. The people barely had time to catch their breath and recover from the earth shaking out from beneath them when they were faced with a huge wall of water coming their way. I can't imagine their fear and their panic in such adversity, but I can imagine how my own fear and panic would feel.

The country had just survived two of the worst natural disasters they possibly could ever have faced. Those two natural diasters combined, are wreaking havoc now on two nuclear plants. I have read that one finally went into full cold shutdown in the night last night. The other is still a danger zone. Correction, the other is still in "get the hell out of here as fast as you can" status.

You see, those powerful, egotistical, politicians had convinced their tiny little country that nuclear powr was a good idea within a country that suffers an earthquake every five minutes. I have read that there are 55 nuclear plants in a country the size of Montana! They get 1/3 of their power from nuclear energy.

Now, you'd think that in a country that is as technologically advanced as Japan is, they'd have sought 'greener' technoligies. They would have sought out wind, solar, or even water generated power. They'd have used what the universe, God if you will, gave to us. But no. What God gave us, just wasn't good enough for the politicians and energy officials. It would be too pricey to develop. This was cheaper, and as long as the cooling system stays in place, it's "clean" energy. They thought that they could perfect upon an already perfect design.

Most times, science is a great and wonderful thing. It helps us to accomplish great feats, defeat disease, invent new things to improve upon our lives. But when politicians and greedy people all over the world decide to use those findings to create something totally new, it leads to disaster.

Science said "let's find out what happens when we take the smallest particle possible, called an atom, and split it!" We found out. When we saw the destruction it caused, you'd think we'd sit back and say "gee, this isn't a good thing. We need to not do this again. We need to put this discovery away now and work on something else." Instead, what they said was "Gee! Big boom! I wonder what kind of energy that would produce and how we can harness it to power the world! No more oil dependency. YAY!"

As a child, we all stuck our finger into an lectrical outlet after mommy said no. Or we touched the hot burner. Or we did something mommy said was dangerous. We did it once. The great majority of us only did it one time. A very rare few did it again, and again and again, often times in different ways to see what would happen. Those standing behind nuclear energy even now, were those kids.

Look, I'm no Bible thumper. I don't go to church either. I don't believe God is going to depart his wisdom through a book and he's not going to have a personal conversation with us if we're sitting in a room full of people. That man at the pulpit, more times than not, is not there to teach us the word of God, and he's not there to guide us through our trials and tribulations. He's there to satisfy his own egotistical desire to be a great leader.

However, I am going to break down what this one little phrase means, to me anyway, and how it is going to effect us.

"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." The meek are the ones that are tending to the earth's needs. Yes. They are our farmers. They are our environmentalists. They are our hunters, that only hunt when necessary and not for sport. They are the people organizing great clean ups in our cities. They are the people that quietly help another person to get on their feet. They don't use a lot of pomp and circumstance. They use only what they need, no more and no less. They quietly share what they have and find no need to embelish their life styels with fancy cars, huge houses, etc. Give them a plot of land to tend to, and they are happy.

The total opposite of the meek are the greedy. Greedy isn't necesssarily about money, it could be greedy for attention, resources, etc. They are loud and boisterous, and do everything they can to prove they are right, even when they are wrong. They take the easy and least expensive way out. Instead of spending money to use good, natural resources, they scimp and use resources that are extremely dangerous. Instead of spending money to repair what we have correctly, they scimp, and possibly endanger the lives of millions. They seek big homes, fancy cars, and attention.

In the middle you have the "followers." They tend to follow along with whatever is going on. The person that screams the loudest gets their attention, and they follow that person's thoughts and ideals. They don't mean to do harm, they just believe what they're told. Because the meek are quiety busy with minding their own business, tending the earth, they are often out numbered and out spoken by the greedy. The meek are written off and not listened to in one single little bit.

The meek will inherit the earth. It won't be because God will come down and rain Armegeddon down upon us. It won't be because of a second coming of Christ. (I still think he's already here!) It won't be because Satan took over. The meek will inherit the earth because the greedy and the followers will destroy it.

That's it in a nutshell. Satan isn't some demonic angel cast down into hell by God. Satan is us. Heaven isn't where we'll go when we die if we live a good life. Heaven is the paradise the meek will create when the greedy are finished destroying this great planet.

We have been given many messages over the years that we, as a world population, have not listened to. We have been told, take care of what you have or else. We have been told, use clean NATURAL energy, or else. We have been told to care for each other as we care for ourselves. And yet, we do not listen. Will we listen now, as Japan's population is being slowly poisoned by their nuclear plants?

No. We won't. The greedy still insist that nuclear energy is good, clean energy. The followers, some are starting to wake up, but they'll go back to following again even before this latest disaster is over.

The meek though... The meek is sitting at home, spending some time with their families, planting their gardens and waiting. The meek are taking care of their surroundings, and trying to stay away from things that they know will destroy them.

Yes, I am against nuclear energy. I'm an all natural (or at least mostly natural) kind of girl. If nature doesn't provide it, we don't need it! Let the greedy keep sticking their fingers in the light sockets. I learned the lesson the first time I did it. I have no need to further harm myself, or those around me, with the dangerous consequences!
