I've been putting it off as long as I can. I've used templates when necessary; and have paid more than normal for products just because they made things easier. Let's face it, when it comes to anything technology related, I have zero patience. Hard to believe I went to school for this crap, right? Yeah me too. (It seems like a million years ago!)
When I buy a new techno-gadget, I expect it to work right out of the box. Sure, I may have to hook up a monitor, or set up wireless, but for the most part the whole thing involves just opening the box and attaching a cord. I really do not want anything that requires more work than that.
If I need a particular part, such as a network card, I will look for the easiest to install thing I can find. If it's hot swappable, it's my friend! Just as an aside, that's one reason why I love my Dell's. They make it so easy to pull a side off, and just swap things in and out like a pro.
When I need software, I want the kind that installs with just the click of a button. Only one button should exist, lest I become confused by the bright shinies. That button should also be very obvious such as "click this to install." Over simplified? Maybe. But computer stuff tends to really cheese my goat.
So now it's time. I have to redo my company website. Of course, it would be easier if I could just pass it off to someone else. I'm having to become a bit of a penny pincher as well lately, so it's just me and my techno geek super powers. Anyone know where I can buy some of those?
I'm not going to regale you with the tales of today, but it is a tale that will be told for generations to come, I'm sure. Instead of Xena Warrior Princess, I'll be known as Dana Computer Thrasher, or something to that effect. Okay, in reality, I'd probably be more like Joxer, but a girl can dream, can't she?
In the end, I'll wind up procrastinating some more. The websites aren't doing what I need them to do, and support is trying to say that they are, when I can clearly see that no, they are not. I need to do a manual installation on a piece of software, and have no clue how to do it. Support is, of course, of no help what so ever. "Just follow the instructions clearly written there in Greek that any monkey well versed in gibberish can follow." The instructions that are miles long, and full of more techno speak than a Google Plussers computer thrashing blog post. "I am Plusser... Hear me ROAR like a kitteh!!!" Bleh. Maybe I could somehow convince them to upload this thing for me, and tell me why my sites aren't showing up yet?
Who am I kidding? Even if they did, I haven't been trained in how to speak gibberish or Greek. Why on earth can't web hosting companies just make it easy? Push a button. That's all I want to do. I certainly pay enough! And if that button won't push, I also pay enough to warrant having someone on the other end push the button for me.
Sadly, that's the thing. Customer support for website hosting, domain hosting, etc, is just not what it could be nor what it should be. I don't know. I'm rambling a bit, probably. Hopefully, I will awaken in the morning and there, before my very eyes, will be a bright and shiny button for me to push. Then I too can be a computer thrasher of technological doom.
