Approaching the Offline World

So, I'm trying this new thing where I don't spend as much time on the computer during the day. So far, I'm making progress, I think. At least, when our clients send work out on time, I make progress! Other times, I sit and do the whole 'refresh' thing. You know the drill. Refresh your favorite webpages (also known as Facebook, LinkedIn and G+) every five minutes to see if the content ever changes. It doesn't.

I did add a book or four to my Google Play account, but really, does that count as getting off of the computer? I think I'll start reading those when I have the Netbook. Having to sit up to read a big old monitor really does interrupt the classic kick back with a book feel.

The problem is, the more that I'm off of the computer, the more that I want out of the house. I gave my car away years ago to a single mother, so now, I rely on dear Husband to take me everywhere. Well, to be fair, I want to use the car but most of the time, he prefers to drive me. And he definately doesn't want to do that after driving home from work for an hour!

I'm hoping that we have a tax return this year, and that I can use it towards a little something. I've seen this car of our neighbors on sale for $1800. I'm going to try to talk them down to $1500, and hope we get enough of a refund to get it. This would open a few more doors for me, I think.

So why the sudden interest in getting off of the computer? I can't really explain it fully. I just know deep down that this is one of the changes that I am supposed to make to my life. The online world served it's purpose.

When my kids needed me to be at home, stay at home and take care of them, I did. The Internet provided me with schooling, work and socialization. The children are growing older now, though. One is getting ready to graduate high school and the other is just entering high school. That need for me to always be here isn't present anymore.

I still plan on working online, but maybe I'll get something B&M, too.
