Just thinking out loud

I'm alive, awake, blessed and ever so grateful! How many people woke up today awake, and eager for their feet to hit the ground running?

Okay. Me neither. I was just checking.

I do have a lot to get done today, though. I'm seriously wondering if I can hire an intern to do things like recruiting. I have to hiring for more editors and I absolutely dislike this stage! All of the interviews, then the training, etc.

Everyone is on their best behavior during interviews but it doesn't last very long after hired. Well, if it did, I wouldn't need to hire more! Seriously, though, this part of the business, for me, is one of those chores I would pass off quickly if I could.

The thing is, everyone wants higher pay but as soon as we get to the spot where we can offer it, 90% of the workforce just stops performing. Then, we aren't making the amount we need to for everyone to get more money and the whole cycle has to start again. It's like, "woah... wait... really???"

Another thing that I'm considering an intern for is a client services representative. This person would work on commission only for a while and would just go and get us more clients. This is something that I totally suck at myself! Actually, I think that I will put in an ad for that one.

We're at the start up stage so we don't have the mega bucks to pay the graduates, but a good intern that wants to grow with the company could work out very well.

As much as I complain about the KP 'chores', I have to say that I do love my job. I have one of the best jobs possible. Not only do I get to earn a living doing management, but I also get to push myself further every single day. Every morning is a day to say "I wonder if I can do this..." and then do it! It's a personal challenge that is never ending.

And, at the same exact time, I'm helping others to grow their skills and careers. Or, at the very least, I'm helping others to make ends meet. I feel good knowing that while our jobs don't pay the greatest, they are often times enough to keep families going. I feel good knowing that while it may be a small income, it's also good training for writers, editors and our managers. All of us, myself included, learn valuable skills that we can all use to further our careers down the road. And I also feel good knowing that while we don't have the best rates of pay, we certainly don't have the worst, either.

2014 is going to be a year of growth for KP. We're going to grow into better projects, higher pay and better people. So give a yawn, a stretch, hop on the bus and let's go!
