Editor Interview Day

I'm getting ready for a day of in house editor interviews. There are some that have applied for our on site editor position and they're coming for an interview today. I think that if multiple people are hired, we're going to do a training class instead of independent training. I may do this for our online editors as well.

Wow. We're big enough to consider training classes! That just now hit me.

Anyway, I'm a bit nervous doing this. See, I'm not a people person. I know what you're thinking. "Dana, you run a large organization and have built it up around people. You interact with them on a daily basis. Of course, you're a people person!" Honestly, I'm not. Anyone who tells you differently either doesn't know me or is just straight up lying to you. In fact, the more people around me, the higher the chance of me royally screwing up and saying the wrong thing. (Don't ask about the time that I totally deflated a co-worker during a meeting. Completely unintentional but again, large group of people!)

Also, though, these people are going to be in my home on a daily basis, at least for a few weeks. I'm an extremely private person. When I say extremely, I mean put that in all caps, bold it and use italics. EXTREMELY. My husband comes home and asks what I had for breakfast and I tell him it's none of his concern. (Then apologize for being bitchy.) Stores ask for my phone number and/or email address and I tell them there is no need for them to have it. In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that I have a business online, I wouldn't even be using my real name for my Internet activity. I value my privacy.

And I'm going to have people all up in it for at least a few weeks. That sends chills up and down my spine, honestly.

The benefits, however, outweigh all of that. I'll be able to oversee their training in person, and help them through any obstacles. I found great value in having Carolyn train here and I think this would be the best method for these editors as well. Plus, it'll be good for me, too, I think.

So, here we go. It's editor interview day. Strap in for the roller coaster ride!
