By five pm, Little Mama still hadn't used the bathroom. Now, for a cat that did nothing but eat all day (five cups of food total!) there should have been a bathroom break in there somewhere. Off to the vet we went. We decided to get an X-ray done to see what caused the blockage.
Now, Little Mama does not trust humans at all (for good reason!) They chose to sedate her before doing the exam. Right as she fell asleep, her entire body relaxed and out it came. She was very severely blocked up! The vet said the cat had four inches of rock hard feces inside of her.
The Xray revealed the reason for the intense blockage. The five or six babies she has inside of her are pressing up against her intestines. This is making it harder for her to push feces through. We were given a laxative for her, and she should be fine from here. The babies should arrive in two to three more weeks.
What completely amazed the vet, and us, is what also showed up in the Xray.
At some point in time, Little Mama was shot, and left for dead. Only, this amazing creature didn't die. Somehow, the owls that run off with full grown cats and small dogs, the vultures that start snacking before the body has grown cold, the fire ants that start eating an animal before it's even died, the coyotes that love a good snack, all of these plus more... She avoided them. What's further more amazing is that she didn't bleed to death, and she didn't fall to infection.
We don't know how long the bullet has been there. We should find out more when it's removed a month from now. (It'll be removed when she is spayed.)
This cat was adopted, then abandoned and left for dead. She survived temperatures that were well below freezing. She did her best to care for her kittens in a wild environment where the humans are more dangerous than the wildlife. And she did it with a bullet lodged in her body. And... she's still a kitten herself. She's not even fully grown yet!
Needless to say, she will not be let back outside at all if we can help it. We're going to get her healthy, then happy. Then, we're going to spoil the stuffing out of this girl. She is going to have kitty condos, fluffy pillows, the nicest of foods, and possibly even bottled water. She'll never feel another flea, or fall victim to worms. She'll never be too hot, nor too cold. She will definately never be alone ever again.
We have adopted two of the most amazing felines ever known to man. We have been blessed with their presence. (For me to say that really means something because I do NOT like cats!) I only hope to one day have her strength and courage and preserverance. I hope to one day be more like Little Mama and Charlie.
Oh, kittens will be ready for new homes in about five months. If anyone would like a kitten, that will have all of it's shots and be sterilyzed, please contact me. These kittens come with awesome lineage. Only those wanting to spoil and pamper a kitten, keep it indoors, and love it for the rest of it's life should inquire about receiving one.
