The Last Freeze...

We have an entire house full of animals right now. Three dogs, one healthy kitten, one kitten with a broken leg, and another kitten ready to give birth any day. (Yes, she is still a kitten and about to have her second litter.) Up until a few days ago, all three of our cages were in full use. Now, for each day a cage is in use, it gets pulled outside and it receives a full scrub down courtesy of my oldest.

A few days ago, when we got the rooms ready for Mama and Charlie, we had Big Bear scrub the cages out. He took off the outside faucets insulation. He hooked up the water hose. He neglected to take the hose back off, or put the insulation back on.

Night before last, it hit 14 degrees and no problems. I had forgotten to turn faucets on that night also. We had no freezes, no issues at all. Last night, I fell asleep before dripping the faucets. This morning, I woke up to my oldest telling me we had no water. Honey went outside and shut off the main water for me, and I waited for sunrise.

As soon as the sun was up, I was outside looking to see if I could tell where we had a freeze at. And there I saw the full of ice water hose still attached to the house. I started trying to take it off, but it wasn't just attached to the house; it was frozen to it. Two hours later, I was finally able to get the hose off. Another hour, and I was able to turn the faucet to the on position.By 11:30, I was able to get the melted water to drain. Finally, at noon, seven hours after the initial scare began, I turned the main water on and held my breath.

So far, so good it seems. I still need to get the ladder and crawl into the attic to check for leaks, but at least I am able to flush the toilet now! Thank heavens this should be the last freeze of the season.

Now, I'm headed back to bed and hoping I don't get woken up by an extremely cold shower! Enjoy the freeze everyone. It's gonna be one helluva summer!
